That is because I can only speak for the computers I have used personally, and cannot speak for other machines. I have only used chess engines on my last four computers. They all run much too slow to suit my tastes, even on my 1 GHz Pentium [1 GB RAM] Compaq Presario. I would like to move up to a dual or quad but cannot see spending the money right now. Too many other things I would rather have. Priorities rule! Numerous bulletins presented here in the last few months have reported problems with the latest Microsoft operating system [XP Professional in particular]. You should determine whether or not those problems still exist before you commit to one of those operating systems. Ask that in your new bulletin. Generally, most people here seem more happy with the AMD processors, but I'm not sure why. There are quite a few CCC bulletins about that. If you don't get answers directly, you may have to dig into the prior bulletins. Try using the CCC search engine. Bob D.
