The latter is especially important for the official (open) Dutch CC. As a matter of fact the telephone line in Leiden was of such poor quality, that often I could not make a connection with the ISP and when the modem did connect, the connect speed varied from 33600 to 2400 bps! This was true for several ISPs we tried, so the problem was not about incompatible modem types or settings. It could be the cabling in the building, which was never properly installed. They used some existing cables of unknown quality left behind by the previous tenants. Theo van der Storm
