The number of chess positios are probably quite a few orders of magnitude lower
than the 2^160 hard limit. The number 2^145 seems quite reasonable using
combinatorical reasoning or compression for that matter. That number does omit
some cases. So you possibly need to add some to it to get them for a hard limit.
But there are cases of GHI to consider too.
