Having one but no the other does not work well.

You can clearly see the progression of knowledge vs. speed
in Fritz 5, Fritz 6 and Fritz 7.

Even if Ruffian is a fast searcher, it is not a bad evaluator
either, despite some holes in the positional knowledge.
