Subject: Power chess and other adjustable engines

Recently I saw some messages about power chess so I borrowed it from a friend.
I have had a terrible time getting it to run on my win98 machine (I did apply
the patch). I'm lucky if I can get it to run for five minutes without locking
up. Does anyone know of a good workaround to get this program running?

One thing I like about it is it play very well to my level. It plays pretty
tough but also makes "useful" mistakes. That is to say that the mistake takes
some level of thinking to take advantage of rather than just sacrificing a piece
for no reason as I have seen many engines do at low level. I was wondering if
anyone knows of other engines that are able to adjust to a players level over
time rather than the user just setting the engine to a weak level. I know Fritz
does this, any others?

thanks!
