On Windows your process can use system calls to map different areas of physical memory into your address space. SQL Server uses that API, and it can utilize all that RAM. Other alternative is to let OS handle that memory. It will be used for file cache, or you can run several memory-hungry applications simultaneously. Thanks, Eugene
