The rules about hardware basically say, "We can't possibly control that, so there's no rule." This is another situation that we have zero control over. If I'm going to cheat, automatic play does absolutely nothing to prevent that. I can add in a few system calls to test key states, pop open windows to say, "I am going to play 1. e4. Is this ok?" or "Keep searching?" or whatever. As I see it, this rule would only limit the people who can play. Also, I see it as a significant bonus to someone who uses automatic play, because they will be less likely to get into a time crunch or fat finger a wrong move in, or whatever. Russell
