First of all what Peter Skinner promised around 2000
- human-computer event with big price money for the
grandmasters. Sponsor were arranged to pay for the
grandmasters. over $100k was gathered for that.
I still can find that email i bet.
- computer-computer event, directly also world championship computerchess.
of course ICCA might have been involved there. I forgot exactly all
promises there, but what is posted here below is not *near* all the
above needed organisation.
First thing you need for grandmasters is money, to pay them. The rest
is a peanut to organize.
A good example is the international blitz championship we organize
at 23 march 2003. I have spoken previous week in a meeting with the
sponsor.
Only *now* we're going to appoint a tournament director and arrange
the other things.
Somehow Skinners organisation of a computer-human event was at a childish
level with regard to the most important aspect of a computer-human event.
He's doing the opposite of all other tournament organizations do.
Note that this international blitz event we organize for the 20th time
or so now. It's a yearly organisation. About 20 people are involved in
the organisation.
A small computer-human event is a peanut compared to that. You need more
money though to pay the grandmasters. Our events are a lower budget, which
in europe is a common thing.
When ICGA gets involved, of course you need to pay $50k to Levy first
to get the title 'worldchampionship' added to an event. However this
year Levy also managed somehow to get kasparov-junior playing (not sure
how much of the work is levy, he's mentionned at the homepage so i guess
he has talked for it). That's pretty much worth the price of $50k ;)

This is in response to your shot at me in the thread: Subject: Re: Is the
Crafty-Sjeng match complete? Your right my sponsors at the time were very good
and could be proven:
1. OA Computer Group unfortuantely has went out of business. They were to lend
computer to participants in return for advertising. At the time they were very
interested. They chose to turn to more of an internet based business and
dropped
off. To bad.. they were a good company.
2. The FantasyLand Hotel has been renamed to the GalaxyLand Hotel. Gene Kachar
the hotel manager died some months ago.. but I am sure you could find out
information still. They were to be the venue. And the accomodations for the
participants. Alan Ghermazian is the son of the owner of the mall. A personal
friend. He was my contact there.
3. At the time I stopped working on the tournament, I was having productive
meetings with Marlin Travel to help cover the costs of the European players
coming over.
4. All the "entry fees" that might have been assessed were going to local chess
groups to have children learn the game.
I even contacted some of _your_ people that you wanted involved. You know I
did.
I can not remember the names now but you wanted the husband and wife team to
be
tournament directors. Since I was only fooling around I thought I would just
contact them anyway.... just for kicks.
I even had conversations with Grandmasters about attending to play as well as
give analysis. Alexander Heine off ICC was one of them.
All in all Vincent.. your right.. I wasn't serious.. and I was just wasting my
damn time.
I really hope one day we get to meet. I would so enjoy that.
I would do the one thing that most here wouldn't.. I would kick your sorry ass
all the way back to Europe.
Peter.
