How can 9 games be enough and 10 >games not be enough? I was talking about rounds and not about games. I checked, the last time there were 46 participants and I somehow expect more now. >Do you really expect a big tie for first place, because >"five rounds are not enough?" A big tie for first place is not bad by itself, really bad is a big tie for first place where the main opponents have not played each other. That is the danger of too few rounds. I think it is worse than the danger of too many rounds (as you mentioned the leaders playing against middle-scorers in the last rounds). The ideal number of rounds in a swiss-system tournament depends of several factors: -The number of players. -How even the field ist (the more even, more rounds are needed). -How many places get honors or qualification to a next stage (the more places at stake, more rounds are needed).
