Hi Gerd,

You may want to take a look at ics-parsing.txt which is included in the winboard
source (I uploaded a copy to http://www.tech.nhl.nl/~hutti801/ics-parsing.txt).
Also, if you're able to read VB code (I suppose you do :) you could take a look
at http://oellermann.com/skaar/ Blikskottels ICS interface.

Regarding the Socket, if you're planning on using timeseal/stamp on FICS/ICC you
don't need to implement sockets, just the parsing of the incoming text through
the timestamp utility.
Timeseal/stamp's main purpose is to prevent loss of time due to internet lag,
you can find both in the winboard or skaar package (note that timeseal is used
for FICS, timestamp for ICC)
