I have Suse 8.1 with gcc 3.2. icc seems to run fine, so the header files seem
not to be the (only) cause of the problem.

BTW. Suse does not belong to the distributions, that the Intel compiler supports
(from the documentation) ...

Are you sure have a line like

source /opt/...(can't remember and I am on Windows now)/iccvars.sh

somewhere?
