Subject: Updating the PV

When does a program output the PV? Does it output the PV after every iteration
of iterative deepening? Or is it possible to output a PV in the middle of a
search? It seems like you should be able to update it after you get a score
greater than alpha and less than beta.

For example, you search the first move and get a score, and that's your PV so
far. You search a second move, get a score, and if that score is greater than
alpha and less than beta, that should be your new PV shouldn't it (even though
you are only two moves, or branches of the tree, into the search for this
iteration)?
