I have done this many times. The only advantage windows has is that the MSVC compiler is the best X86 compiler there is. So windows will produce a higher NPS at the same CPU clock frequency. But not because it is more or less efficient as an O/S, because in Crafty the O/S is simply not used very much during a search.
