Go up one level in this thread

Hallo Marc,

I'm sorry that you could not find your own stuff back. I have had that myself a
few times, that I wondered if the moderators had, in their infinite wisdom,
decided that in retrospect something better had not ever been written and thrown
out a whole line of conversation with it. Of course it could not have been my
post that they objected to... Only then of course I did find that I was just
looking in the wrong place.

Thanks for your remarks in your post, especially what you said that the types of
moves a program is looking at also can help you to understand a position better,
or make a plan of your own. I think that is certainly true.

Funny that you mentioned the "Dukes of Hazard" in your post above, the one that
I am now answering to. I had been away a few days last week on Wednesday and
Thursday, I only read this whole thread now about the misunderstandings this
Sunday. I had been reading some old dinosaur stuff earlier from the CCC search
engine and there I came across a post where Tim Frohlick mentions the Dukes of
Hazard too. Maybe it's nice to reread it:

Hi: Speaking of talking chess computers, I once played a blitz game against
Fritz 5.32 in Handicap mode; I set it to a very weak "Patzer" or "Moron" level.
The game was blunder-filled by both sides, but finally I attained a winning
position. Then I played a quick move, and Fritz said, "Ooooh, I am going to
enjoy analyzing this one!", after which Fritz moved his queen slowly, very
slowly (about one-fifth the usual speed) from one side of the board to the other
... and checkmated me!
