Crafty has no idea about how many tablebase files there are if you don't tell it with the egtb=0 command. That's why I added that as an option. However, slowing down by 2x seems to be way too much. Is your disk light on when this is happening? Perhaps Steven has a bug and is trying to open these non-existant files on each probe...
