I know this is going to make me sound like a real radical or wierdo, but I
intend to do it MY way, i.e. program my own original ideas, BEFORE looking at
how someone else did/does it. Recently, I published a brief idea here for a
"legal move list generator." Programming that is my first priority.

I have no doubt that my ideas will not be as good as the others, because I
respect the opinions of the people here who "have already been there." So,
AFTER I have tried out my own ideas, then I'll try to do all of the other ways.
Also, I will be better prepared to understand what's been said here after
struggling with the problems on my own.

I mean no disrespect! But I MUST do original work, or programming will be no
fun. Copying someone else's work would be like using a chess engine to select
my moves for me when playing chess at ICC.

Incidentally, I'm about half through that thesis. [It's a pity that all theses
are a "required hoop to be jumped through to get a degree." A tutorial text
would have been much more useful.]

The chess engine book and C programming book have not arrived yet from
Amazon.com. When they do, I will go through them, even at the risk of having my
mind "corrupted" by what I read. Again, no disrespect to the authors intended,
I assure you.
