If you use Winboard, make these additions to Winboard.ini:

"Ruffian" /fd=d:\Winboard\Ruffian
"Ruffian" /sd=d:\Winboard\Ruffian

Configuration is controlled by the file ruffian.cfg. Here is what a sample
ruffian.cfg file looks like:

RESIGN 700
KEEP_HASH 1
HASH 32M
EGTB_HASH_SIZE 8M
LOGFNAME ""
BOOK "cleanbook.bok"
TB_PATH "/programme/winboard/nalimov"

Now, what does this mean?

RESIGN 700 --> means to resign if down by a Rook and two Pawns.

KEEP_HASH 1 --> Means whether or not to clear the hashtable.

HASH 32M --> means to allocate 30 million bytes for hash table memory

EGTB_HASH_SIZE 8M --> means to allocate 8 million bytes for end game tablebase
files to cache disk reads

LOGFNAME "" --> add in the name of the log file you would like to use

BOOK "cleanbook.bok" --> I made my own book. Yours will probably say
"ruffian.bok" instead

TB_PATH "/programme/winboard/nalimov" --> This is where I store my Eugene
Nalimov format tablebase files.

You can also use Arena. To use Arena, choose "Engines" on the top menu bar.
Then pick the first item "Install and Select" and click on the details tab. If
you do not understand what to do next, then click on the help button and it will
guide you.

Maybe you can also ask in the Winboard Forum if you have questions still and
want to run Ruffian under Winboard.
