Subject: Partition an installed xp prof 80 gig harddrive or not?

I am receiving a brand new computer with xp professional loaded. Office is not
on it as I already have the 2000 office software on cd to load without having to
pay for it again.
It is an Athlon 2600+ with 1 gig pc2100 266 DDR RAM
Is it really necessary to partition the Drive? with the main use being Chessbase
products?
Would it be better to reinstall xp proff. and partition as I am installing
rather than to do it while the operating system is already loaded?
Or should I just forget about partitioning and run it with one drive.
The 9 disc Nalimov tablebases will be loaded soon.
