It used to be the case that (I make up most of the countries as I can't remember the real ones, although I think Sweden was in there somewhere :) Transylvanian Elo = English Elo + 300 Atlantisian Elo = English Elo + 250 Laputian Elo = English Elo - 150 So you could play all sorts of tricks depending on whose Elo you were actually referring to. When an advertiser talked about "rated 2300" it turned out they were actually referring to the Transylvanian one and had a machine with an English Elo of 2000. I complained to the Advertising Standards Agency (www.asa.org.uk) about this trick 12 years or so ago and got it banned, at least in this country :) Or they could go all the way and quote an ICS "Elo"; why not make it 3200 for good measure? ;) Alastair
