The webmaster could probably create a link/button on the page that gave the best of both worlds: it would go to the next message WITHIN the same thread if it exists; otherwise it would go the the first message in the NEXT thread, chronologically. But apparently that's too difficult to implement. So he promised instead to create a link to go to the next message numerically as a compromise. That was several months ago ... so I figured I'd help by supplying one possible implementation, in JavaScript.
