I am not sure. Chess 4.x was the first incremental move generator program I knew of. Dark Thought followed that idea. I chose not to as I wanted to try to do a better job of move ordering which means I need a set of moves to look at, rather than generating one and going with that. Note that I am not saying this idea is good or bad. I initially didn't want to try it because I knew how to order a normal move list. But it certainly should be tried by anyone doing bitmaps...
