In 1997 genius was nowhere near the top of the programs. Even in 1996 Fritz was already generally the best program around, with shredder up there as well. I was fortunate enough to beat fritz (quest I think it was called) in the WMCCC event that year as he had a buggy version.. but genius was out of the picture by then.
