I had chosen Skunk because the original version really stunk up the chessboard.
For me it started out as an experiment in Atari BASIC just to try some ideas out
(not all chess-related).  For not even looking at its opponent's reply (except
for checking moves, to determine checkmate), it still played a somewhat passable
game for an absolute beginner, and even surprised me with some of its moves, but
it was still abysmally SLOW.  I mean 6 to 10 minutes per move.  Hopefully I can
have a PC version, with some lookahead, playing by the end of the year (provided
I actually get some time to work on it!).
