The requirement that the engine is tested "out of the box" is a good one IMO. That precludes some of the more bizarre combinations seen in private experiments. Otherwise you might end up in a futile argument over which personality is the best. The only exception as I see it, is if de Koning gives indications as to how the engine should be tested. Maybe even offers a version capable of automatic play.
