Hi. I have found a way to connect Winboard and Chessbase in same computer.
I dont know if it was know by people but I didnt know it.
I say here what I do in my computer
Steps:
-Download ERT/CB link here: http://membres.lycos.fr/refigny63/ct15.htm
-Copy it (all zip file, maybe it isnt necessary) in chessbase engines folder
-Load Fritz 7 and create an UCI engine and choose Wb2UCI.exe
-Add a winboard engine (FromCB.exe from chessbase engines folder). I use Galis.
-Load winboard match and put FromCB.exe with black and other engines with white.
-Back to Fritz 7 and go to File or archive and "new" and "match between engines"
and load Wb2UCI with White and other chessbase engine with black.
-Quit opening book and tablebases to ERT/CB Link.
-Press "go" and run winboard also.
You can play between Winboard and Fritz engines WITH BOTH INTERFACES OPENED.
Problems:
-First, sometimes it says illegal moves when begin the game.
-Time is other problem, engines dont begin the game (while winboard is loading)
at same time the game and there is a time diference (20 or 30 seconds to begin
the game and the end of game, Fritz win automatically on time and close the
engine).
-I think there arent memory problems (each program plays in each interface,
Winboard and Fritz)
-I guess it may use with other programs like Arena. I dont test it.
I use Windows 2000 Pentium IV and Fritz 7. You need the Fritz 7 interface forrun
it. I use Galis and I tested it first with Chess Partner (such as say the page)
I dont think you must follow that steps of Chess partner but im not sure.
I guess author of this program know it, but I dont contact with him.
I use Galis and I change the name of engine there example: I use GTiger 2.0
native engine under chessbase --> I put this name in Galis. When I want to use
other native engine, I change the name again.
I suggest you Galis or Arena for this reason. Under winboard only you must
change name from PGN.
This way works fine under Arena also. Follow the same steps.
Other point. When native chessbase engine mates to winboard engine, last move
dont arrives to winboard and mate dont appear. You must put the result there.
Best Regards
Enjoy it.
