Recently I have noticed something strange to which I would like to know what the CM-fans are thinking about: It is well known that TheKing 3.12 (CM8k) and The King 3.23 (CM9k) can be used under Fritz7-/ and other ChessBase-GUI's either with old winboard adapter or as UCI with Odd Gunnar Malins Wb2UCI adapter, even with different settings. The installation is not simple but should make no problems when studying http://home.online.no/~malin/sjakk/cminfritz/cminfritz.html http://www.aarontay.per.sg/Winboard/index.html http://www.computerschach.de/freeware/theking.zip And the usual way to set up a new setting goes very easily under CM8/9-GUI by creating a new personality, stored as X.CMP. And when following the instructions given above you can also create under Fritz-GUI the desired setting with either 1.) winboard adapter in connection with InBetween.ini including the desired setting 2.) Wb2UCI adapter with a textfile including the settings desired (best method) 3.) Wb2UCI adapter as UCI with settings included in Wb2UCI.eng Some people have now started to create own settings by changing the engine parameters under Fritz-GUI. They are obviously not aware that in this way it is often no longer possible to have the same setting (CMP) for the Chessmaster-GUI. Below I give the following example: ____________________________________________________________________ Chessmaster parameters under Chessmaster 8000 GUI CM_8777 (Kleinert) settings (chessmaster.cmp) A/D (Attack/Defender) [ -2] M/P (Material/Position) [ 10] S/P (Strength of Play) [ 100] C/C (Control of Center) [ 105] Rand (Randomness) [ 0] MOB (Mobility) [ 115] MSD (Max Search Depth) [ 99] K/S (King Safety) [ 150] SS (Selective Search) [ 12] P/P (Passed Pawns) [ 110] C/D (Contempt for Draw) [ 0] P/W (Pawn Weakness) [ 125] OWN OPPONENT Queen [119] Queen [119] Rook [ 65] Rook [ 65] Bishop [ 41] Bishop [ 41] Knight [ 39] Knight [ 39] Pawn [ 11] Pawn [ 11] Transposition Table [32 MB] Ponder On Player Type: CustomPlayer Gender: Female ____________________________________________________________________ Logfile output with Crafy 18.1 (under CM8 GUI) CM 8777 settings (Kleinert) Crafty v18.1 White(1): xboard White(1): cm_parm myk=320853 opk=765928 Illegal move (ambiguous): cm_parm White(1): post White(1): new White(1): level 0 6:40 0 game/6 minutes primary time control White(1): cm_parm default Illegal move (ambiguous): cm_parm White(1): cm_parm opp=103 opn=121 opb=127 opr=121 opq=123 Illegal move (ambiguous): cm_parm White(1): cm_parm myp=103 myn=121 myb=127 myr=121 myq=123 Illegal move (ambiguous): cm_parm White(1): cm_parm cc=112 mob=123 ks=160 pp=117 pw=133 Illegal move (ambiguous): cm_parm White(1): cm_parm cfd=0 sop=100 avd=-2 rnd=0 sel=12 md=99 Illegal move (ambiguous): cm_parm White(1): cm_parm tts=33554432 ttu=7 ____________________________________________________________________ The King 3.23 (UCI) with textfile CM 8777 (Kleinert) settings ;---- CM8_Kleinert.txt ; A personality CM 8777 created by Stefan Kleinert, GER cm_parm opp=103 opn=121 opb=127 opr=121 opq=123 cm_parm myp=103 myn=121 myb=127 myr=121 myq=123 cm_parm cc=112 mob=123 ks=160 pp=117 pw=133 cm_parm cfd=0 sop=100 avd=-2 rnd=0 sel=12 md=99 ;---- File end ____________________________________________________________________ CM9_8777 (Kleinert) setting with InBetween.ini (winboard adapter) [Client2Server] ; TheKing 3.12 CM 8777 (Kleinert Stefan) xboard := xboard\npost\nnew\ncm_parm tts=33554432 ttu=7\ncm_parm opk=599585 opp=103 opn=121 opb=127 opr=121 opq=123 myp=103 myn=121 myb=127 myr=121 myq=123 cc=112 mob=123 ks=160 pp=117 pw=133 cfd=0 sop=100 avd=-2 rnd=0 sel=12 md=99 [Server2Client] ; Set transalation of commands from the server here ; format word := translation ____________________________________________________________________ The above example demonstrates that it is not possible to compare the CM-values given in the output file by Crafty 18.01 (i.e. log.0001) with the parameters for ChessBase-GUI. And for this reason one should under no circumstances change CM-parameters under ChessBase-GUI because nobody knows how the correct settings would then be for the CM-GUI. The Milan settings The King 3.23M2UCI : opp=108 opn=110 opb=110 opr=110 opq=115 myp=108 myn=110 myb=110 myr=110 myq=115 ks=122 pw=115 avd=-3 sel=10 The King3.23M2+ : opp=105 opn=107 opb=107 opr=107 opq=112 myp=105 myn=107 myb=107 myr=107 myq=112 ks=130 mob=104 pw=118 pp=110 sel=12 have been created by simply changing the params under Fritz-GUI but those people who like to play with these Milan settings under CM-GUI have no chance to find out how to create the corresponding Chessmaster.cmp. In other words can be said that Milan is most probably using settings that are impossible to create under CM-GUI. For all these reasons I always create a new personality under Chessmaster-GUI and then - on the basis of the logfile output of a winboard engine like Crafty or Quark - I can put the correct and same settings for ChessBase-GUI. What are you thinking about this matter? Kurt
