This may come as a RUDE SHOCK to many chess engine programmers, but: "There is MORE to a good chess-playing program than the engine!" If Fritz8 offers substantially better user features, then it is well worth the money. A chess engine by itself is like a nude fat senior citizen at a black-tie ball. I know this runs counter-intuitive to "hard-core" engine programmers! : ) But don't take my word for it. Just monitor the sales figures, if you can get them. Bob D.
