I cannot reproduce this bug here with Linux and Xboard. I cannot
currently test it on a Windows machine. I'd like to see the debug
log if anyone is willing to create it (via "winboard /debug ...")
and mail it to me.

I recommend using xboard/winboard with -xreuse flag anyway. The idea
of reusing chess program without some synchronization is incorrect.
Xboard assumes the engine is ready to play new game right after it
sends the 'new\n' string. If you are fast enough with 'Reset game'
+'Two machines' you can get xboard totally confused, especially on
a slow machine.  I tried this with crafty, phalanx, and gnuchess.

XVIII should be stronger (especially at blitz against computers) than
XVII.  XVII had bug in static exchange evaluator that sometimes caused
pruning safe captures and checks in quiescence search.
