Anyway, we have got the phantastic Ruffian uci engine for free, which >already runs perfect under the current CB GUIs. >So, why another port to CB ? I agree too that it's not necessary, as Ruffian-UCI supports everything including multi-pv, ponder, tbs. etc. in the Fritz and in the Shredder (classic) GUI. Also, the excellent results indicate that there's no performance problem whatsoever. In the ChessBase program itself (7.0, and also 8.0 AFAIK) it should be possible to run Ruffian using the WinBoard adapter... I didn't try it yet (if it supports multi-pv in this case; I guess not). Maybe this would be the only advantage of a native. But if necessary, I can use the other GUIs for analysis with Ruffian anytime. For people which do not have a Fritz GUI but Shredder 5, Ruffian can be recommended for tactical analysis, because in general it's faster than Shredder at combinations IMO. Speaking of CB-natives, more important will be the release of *List 5.0x* as cb-native, which is expected for January. This strong free engine wasn't available as UCI so far, only WinBoard. New versions of List and of Aristarch, which are not released yet, participate in the CSS Masters tournament: http://www.beepworld.de/members38/lchristian/teilnehmer.htm Regards, M.Scheidl
