If it is clear that the pictures were messed with without mention, you grow suspect of the rest of the article as well. If we can't trust the picture, how are we supposed to trust te rest of the data we can't verify? It's like writing a paper on parallel searching and forgetting to mention you calculated instead of measured half of the data. -- GCP
