1. I am polite to them.

2. I can chat with them without insulting them.

3. I offer to do whatever they want, such as have a specific opening book for a
particular
player so he can only play against 1. d4 openings if that is what he wants.

4. I am polite to them and don't bug them about "play my program" or "wanna get
butchered
by crafty" or whatever.

5. I ask for comments, but relatively infrequently to not bother them.

6. Did I forget to mention that I am polite to them and show them respect when
talking to
them? :)

Most computer operators (non authors) on ICC turn into jerks and get obnoxious.
Not all
but most. If a GM senses that someone has a great deal of respect for them,
they will play
games. If they get to dictate the opening, the time control, when the program
should resign,
etc, then they will play. I give them crafty's "password" (zippypassword2 for
those that know
what that is) so that the GM can control _everything_ about Crafty that he
wants, even up to
giving himself more time although that is not very common. But I tell them
"feel free if you
get a phone call while playing..."

Again, courtesy is _the_ word...
