At the age of 7, Samuel Reshevsky played simuls against Expert strength players
with devastating scores.
Also at the age of 7, Henrique Mecking was state champion, and by the age of 12,
won the Absolute Brazilian Championship. Mind you, he certainly had no super
school, nor top trainers behind him. Despite having absolutely no assistance in
his chess development, when he was 14 he was invited to the International
Hastings Tournament where he scored 50%, and which was won by the World Champion
Mikhail Botvinnik.
Mecking is still the greatest natural prodigy in my book.
