When chess engines become MUCH stronger than humans, I predict the motivation to make them even stronger will go away. Then, there will be *different* chess engine programming objectives. Since chess engines, like all software, are intended for human use, then new &/or improved uses for the chess engines will be pursued by the programmers. Today, there are only a few popular uses of chess-playing programs. It doesn't need to be that way in the future. New ideas will emerge. Incidentally, as a user of CB8 with Fritz used together, I look forward to integrated chess programs which offer much more to the users. Bob D.
