This is actually very difficult and time consuming. There are patterns to watch
out for -- but then if players suspects he is being watched - he may
deliberately try to make his pattern different. I was involved with internet
chess in it's infancy as a player back in '91/92 time frame. I was a member of
ICC befor ethey charge money and was a founding member - I joined immediately
when they went to the pay "model".

There was some cheating back then but it was not out of control as I think it is
now. I was a continous member until about 1997 or '98. Due to changes in my
life (nothing like having kids), I had less time to devote to chess and computer
chess. When I came back recently to computer chess about year ago, things were
NOT the same as 4 or 5 years ago for internet chess.

1. Many, many more computer operators - too many IMO.
2. Many many more JERKS running those computers. Essentially destroying the
enviroment back in '90's where many GM's, IM's etc would play many different
machines.
3. Many more GM's, IM's have access to high powered machines and high powered
programs - thus why do play on the internet when they could that in their own
apartment/house - they want to play other GM, IM's (and I don't blame them).
4. A lot more (c)heating (% wise) going on in my opinion. Rampant cheating.
So much so, that it is harder to the cheaters from the real players - because
most are cheating IMO. For some reason, many human players have No qualms about
cheating against another players and even fewer qualms with cheating against a
computer.

There's a website totally dedicated to cheating with computers on the internet.
Dr Unclear has had this website for years. Just about everything he has written
about it is on mark. There is really nothing new under the sun as far cheating
on the internet with computers. Generally, you get a new bunch of teenagers and
early 20 year old men who equate their interent chess rating with the size of
their family jewels. In reality, it has an inverse correlation.

It is multi-lingual just pick the right flag.

I have left internet chess and I have no intention of going back. I'm happy
with my computers matches that I can run on my own machine. If I play, enjoy
the longer games more. Unless you enjoy playing blitz - playing blitz is just
about the worse thing for your long time control chess. Humans, to truly become
better at chess, must develop their visualizations skills and deep thinking
analysis. Blitz may be ok for patttern recognition, but it does nothing for
your deep thinking/concentration analysis. In other words, playing blitz will
help you play better BLITZ, but not better chess,
