For other applications though the P4 is *MUCH* faster MHz for MHz than the new P4-cored Celerons. Even an old Celeron 1.3GHz (P3 core) and Duron 1.3GHz can beat a Celeron 1.7GHz (P4 core) overclocked to 2.26GHz. http://www.tech-report.com/reviews/2002q3/celeron-1.7/index.x?pg=1 http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1622&p=9 Here are two reviews of the Celeron 1.7GHz. As you can see it is a waste of money as much faster processors are available for less money. Celeron 2.0GHz = $87 AthlonXP 2100+ = $87 As far as chess goes an AthlonXP 2100+ is pretty close if not on par with a P4-2.8GHz.
