http://www.grailmaster.com/misc/chess/chess.html Report (after 61.500 games): Well, we have a new leader - Fritz8 - however, the gain in ELO-points is not as high as probably expected. Ruffian is the strongest amateur-engine. Sadly, it is more than likely, that the next version will be a commercial one. Although, Ruffian scored in other tournaments very well, it was not able to come really close to the "old" professionals like Fritz or Tiger. Hiarcs 8 improved to the former version, but rankes still behind the 3 year ols Fritz 6. We see also some new entries in the Chessmaster 9000-rankings. The new Milan-Settings are worth a look at and rank only slightly behind the Grailmaster-settings. Shredder is still not in the Top 10, so we will eagerly await the release of Shredder 7, which could be a much stronger engine at faster time-controls than older Shredder-Versions!? We will see. With the Nimzo2000 Surak-settings we witness a rebirth of good old Nimzo. This settings proofed at least to gain 39 points against Nimzo 8 and 51 points against Nimzo2000b. Crafty 19.01 is still not able to improve. A long story by now. Will we ever see a Crafty-version better than 17.13 ?? One big surprise was Thinker 4.2b, which climbed to the third place in the amateur ranking! Not far behind Thinker we find the new Delfi 3.2. Remarkable is that Delfi seems to improve steadily from version to version. Where will it end? A similar improvement from version to version we can find with Smarthink 0.13a. If it improves at this speed I expect Smarthink within the top engines within 1-2 years.
