It could happen.  But try to create a position where each side can make
10 consecutive captures with no intervening "quiet" moves that would stop
a capture search dead.  It is *very* difficult.  My "capture" search  is not
a big part of the tree.  If you count interior nodes, plus "leaf" nodes (because
you *must* search positions at depth=0, and then you count captures below those,
it is only about 30% of the total search in the middlegame, and in endgames it
is almost zero...
