In my experience that is _way_ over the top. Something between a PII/500 and
PIII/1GHz would be more like it and, in companies, even lower (a lot of them are
still running NT4 with no real interest in changing).

When people shout 'Intel PVI/14GHz best for chess' it's unclear how many listen;
I suspect the purchasers of chess programs who buy new PCs solely because those
programs might run faster is a small proportion of the whole. Dunno about anyone
else, but there are better things to spend money on than doubtfully improved
hardware :)
