I see no hypocrisy here.

using engines only for blunder check after you analyze by yourelf is different
than using it for analysis.

The question if chess engines help you to get the final decision about your
moves is different than the question if you use chess engines for analysis.

The popularity is effected by quality or what people believe to have quality.
