I remember a couple of years ago (or more) a guy won a CC/email championship with the help of computers - he was very open about this with his opponent(s) who did not use a computer. His technique was to favour different engines for different kinds of positions and stages in the game. I remember he found ChessMaster particularly valuable in the endgame. Does anyone else recall this? I use the computer to help me analyse my correspondence games after I've finished. I often find chess engines lacking in some instances in their positional awareness. They also tend to favour aggressive lines of exchanges which usually look drawish/weakening in the long run rather than go for a waiting/holding move which can be more suitable to corr. chess time controls/style. One reason I'm interested in the new Chess Assistant is because it might actually enable more useful/flexible analytical possibilites/results from engines. I've always thought that the ChessBase GUIs seem a bit wooden in this regard. Bests Matthew
