We wanted a civilized forum to talk computer chess and we also wanted here a number of people that read and don’t post because they much prefer to stay away from mud throwing. This, in my opinion, became increasingly blurred in CCC. Only yesterday I received the following: “There are often very meaningful questions raised in CCC, which XXX could and should answer, but nobody has any motivation to go in there and get puked on.” XXX were several names I am not at liberty to mention. There are also the names of people that, “appalled”, disappeared from CCC after getting blasted. I don’t think it is so much a matter of “tolerance”, as you imply when changing the title of the thread, as of consistency in the definition of CCC as a place where NO personal attacks are allowed, no matter who is the offender. If there is more “tolerance” towards offenders that moderators find generally interesting, CCC will be redefined as a forum where elitism is a criteria subjectively established by moderators on a per case basis. Or else: “if we find you post interesting stuff, you can kick around now and then; otherwise we’ll kick you out.” This is obviously a perversion of the original project of CCC. I think it is also a matter of consistency the reacceptance of people that got a red card. After an X period of time they should be allowed back, no matter what. Either this rule applies to everyone or CCC will be unavoidably, and rightfully, accused of having double standards. These are the two very basic rules approved when CCC was created. I think they should still apply. Else, this forum must be considered as qualitatively different than what it was meant to be. As I said several times before, I am in favor of having Rolf and Chris back in CCC, and I am in favor because of fairness based on the original criteria of CCC mentioned above. Enrique
