It indicates good understanding of general opening principles, of some engines.
But actually, such long variants remain exceptions. Furthermore, the games which
are "reproduced" partially, are often not the one's between top GMs, but of
mediocre GMs or IMs (at least on one side), so not even the suspicious will find
much what would raise doubt if something was hidden "book-like" in the engine.
Most often the "novelty" came early.

For the long variant mentioned, Junior 5 vs. Shredder 5.32 followed a game
Robert Byrne - Wexler (never heard of Wexler before) of 1964, for 13 calculated
moves:

Maybe the ugliest counter example was the last game, CT 14-Ruffian where Ruffian
played the opening bad IMO:
