I can really sympathize. I live in Rio, and do not need to tell you the
temperatures it reaches here. No air-conditioning either. I can't open the tower
to point a fan either, since I live right in front of the ocean, so it would
kill my machine in less than a month (instead of the 12-18 it takes on average).
Literally. Here is what I do:
I use a large CPU fan by CoolerMaster. It has a big efficient heat sink, and a
large fan. Be careful about the big fancy designs from other brands: Some are
very cool looking, but not terribly efficient. It comes with a pink plastic
tape, that supposedly helps, but it's crap in my experience. Go to a hardware
store and ask for some thermal paste (it should cost about $1-2). Cover the top
of the CPU with a coat of it (like putting two layers of paint), then place the
fan back on top of it. Do not worry, it won't hurt the processor. I also have an
exhaust fan in the tower that I got from a computer store. It cost me about $5
and basically sucks the hot air out of the tower. It probably doesn't drop the
temperature more than a few degrees, but when it reaches 40+ degrees outside, it
may be the difference between a CPU and junk.
My machines may die on a regular basis due to the sea air, but I haven't had one
go because of overheating.
