AMD has much better performance/price than Intel does. You can build a full
mid-range AthlonXP-based system for between $500-$800. Intel systems at those
prices usually come equipped with a Celeron.

AthlonXP 2400 will hands-down beat a P4 2.4 GHz. Which of the high-end parts is
faster is still a matter of debate, but that's only relevant if you have deep
pockets as the P4 3 GHz is $700 for the CPU alone.
