Chessbase handled the engine Goliath Light 1.5 very strangely. For months it was available as a free engine from the download area of their websites, www.chessbase.com (English) and www.chessbase.de (German). Then they removed it from the download area of the English site and offered it for sale in their "Engines Direct" area (http://www.chessbase.com/shop/index.asp?cat=Engines+direct), although it could still be downloaded free from the German site. About a month later it was removed from the free area of the German site and also offered for sale. I'm not a lawyer, so please don't ask me if it's legal for someone who downloaded a free copy to share it with his friends.
