The program uses many piece-lists internally, which is where the name comes from, I think. I have seen the evaluation function, which uses separate lists for each piece type. It also is internally nothing like crafty (does not use bitboards) so it is not a takeoff on the crafty name either. The small bit of code that I saw was simply brilliant. Usually, when I look at some bit of C code, I can think of some sort of helpful advice. But every change I could imagine was a downgrade rather than improvement. I expect soon that List will be a world-beater.
