Here is a rating list of the free winboard programs with ponder off see http://f11.parsimony.net/forum16635/messages/39581.htm Ruffian is missing because it is too new but good free programs like yace are not missing. You can see that crafty has the first 5 places in the rating list. Bob Hyatt claimed that crafty is not tuned for ponder off but it seems not to suffer from it based on the results(espacially when I know that crafty did not do good results in Leo's tournament when ponder on is used). other possible explanations for the surprising result(except the guess that crafty is relatively better with ponder off): 1)Crafty likes more slow hardware(only pII566 is used) 2)Crafty likes more blitz 3)Crafty likes more fisher time control and is not tuned for x minutes/40 moves that is not played on ICC.
