It is my understanding that some newer engines may be slower than it's predecessor. Such was the case with Fritz 5. Again, correct me if I am wrong, but If I am not mistaken, Fritz 5 is faster than all the later Fritz engines. Thus Fritz 5 was labeled "FAST BUT DUMB" And some other engines as well. With some of the new slower engines, additional chess knowledge (positional and endgame). And all the other things that the Programmers (which by the way, I know absolutely nothing about)tell us is going on with in the programs. I have the utmost respect for you programmers and of course, any of you Chess masters. Truly amazing. Brian Katz
