Here's Black's best defense (I think) in the main line:

1.Nxg6! cxb3 2.Nxf8+ Qxf8 3.Qxf5+ Qxf5 4.Nxf5 Bxf1 5.Bxf1 Rc2 6.Be3 dxe5 +-

White's advantage is less than if Black captured the knight, but still more than
in the line above.
