In the Athlon XP@1.2 results of my tactical Quicktest, Ruffian 1.0.1 scores better too, than Fritz 7 or than Shredder 5.32. Tacticaly fastest in my tests so far, is Fritz 7 *NoMMX*. http://meineseite.i-one.at/PermanentBrain/quick/quicke.htm This test is for 1 minute per position only (24 pos.). I award 0...15 points for the solving time, using a table which is an approximation of a logarithmic function (see graphic). But in addition to that, I also "simply" give 10 points for each solution. You can see the downloadable Athlon results with Excel or the Excel Viewer. List 5.04 is competitive to the profis at combinations, between Tiger 14 and Fritz 7. Hiarcs 7.32 and Nimzo 8 are among the fastest still... I didn't test some of the most recent engines; I guess Hiarcs 8 would be very good at our test suites too. Regards, M.Scheidl
